During the summer, I read the book The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. The theme of this very great book is “Family is stronger than the strongest god.” An idea or example from the book that supports this theme is when Carter Kane, (main character) says, “I am Carter Kane. Blood of the Pharaohs.” The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt were some of the most powerful people to be on earth in that time period. Carter and his sister, Sadie Kane, are “Blood of the Pharaohs” which means they are related to them, the Pharaohs are their ancestors. This idea supports the theme because the Pharaohs are much stronger than the ancient egyptian gods, and they are related to them, which make them a lot more powerful than most people and gods of ancient egypt. Being a Kane (which is their last name) makes them very powerful because the Kane family was around when the Pharaohs were, and throughout the generations since then, Carter and Sadies’s family are much more powerful, which makes Carter and Sadie indeed very powerful.
Another example that supports the theme, “Family is stronger than the strongest god”, is when Carter and Sadie both destroy Set, the egyptian god of evil and chaos. He was one of the strongest gods in history, and he was getting much more stronger as the days went by. Sadie and Carter both destroyed him, using his “Secret Name, Evil Day.” They did not have any help from any gods. This supports the theme because Carter and Sadie Kane came from a strong family and them two together was so match for Set, who was becoming one of the strongest gods. They did not have any help from gods who also wanted to destroy Set, which makes it much more impressive. From being the weakest kids to learning the darkest secrets to becoming apart of the strongest family, Carter and Sadie Kane now realize what being a Kane really means.
